Bioshock Posters

This was a completely personal project that let me practice different styles, techniques, and designs. So please no comments on how I “stole these from Bioshock”, how they aren’t my work, or any other negative comments. I recreated all of these in poster sized print quality formats for the bioshock community and myself. All were done in Photoshop and Illustrator CS4.

Stefan Petit ha investito prima 6 mesi a ricreare i poster di Bioshock e poi altrettanti per fare anche quelli di Bioshock 2… incredibile. Sul suo DeviantART ce ne sono molti di più di quelli che ho riportato nella gallery sotto, tutti da vedere, bravo Stefan!

Ralph Mac Querrie Star Wars Storyboards

the awesome Star Wars illustrations by Ralph Mac Querrie. Not only are they inspirational and amazing, they also take you back to the days when the whole Star Wars franchise was still new and fresh. I am quite fond of those memories, and these images certainly bring it all back. If you’re not a hardcore Star Wars fan, you might not know that Mr. Querrie was the one who drew the original storyboard for the first Star Wars movies which landed George Lucas the budget to shoot the movies. Before he had a storyboard, he was met with utter rejection.

Strepitose illustrazioni di Ralph Mac Querrie tratte dagli storyboard originali di Guerre Stellari che consentirono a George Lucas di convincere i produttori a tirare fuori il grano per fare il film vero e proprio.. insomma da un certo punto di vista senza Ralph e i suoi bellissimi storyboard Star Wars oggi forse non esisterebbe, o sicuramente sarebbe un diverso da come lo conosciamo.

A couple of years ago something in my head snapped. I had grown tired of producing pretty insipid work on the computer to pay the bills; the late nights and tight deadlines tied to a mac on autopilot, pushing pixels had begun to mess with my mind.

Mi piace moltissimo questo illustratore inglese, le stampe che vende nello shop sono bellissime, ma anche costosissime, quindi se le tiene… belle idee comunque.

Childhood, Christmas time, friends, family, joy, happiness … and, a new toy on my desk. Toy that will define my life, responsible for such a beautiful experiences from my childhood. Kids imaginary world, lost over time, a glimpse of it left in my head, a glimpse of priceless memory. But, it wouldn’t be such a great experience if it wasn’t for my friends… do you guys remember how we spent hours playing games, competing and exploring these new digital frontiers?

I must admit I had Atari ST not Amiga ;), but my friend had Amiga and it had way better graphics and sound than my ST. So that’s the reason why I decided to model Amiga for this illustration, out of respect.

His Flickr stream is hands down one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen. He’s taken a 1950′s style Peggy Sue magazine model and put different worlds around her using a single template. The creativity and artistic detail are spectacular. You should definitely go check out his Flickr stream, but here are some you’ll find there. The Art Of Drew Struzan

Drew Struzan, the man behind the stunning-ass posters for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and, yep, Back To The Future, has a book out. It’s called The Art Of Drew Struzan, is out from Titan Books a week from today and will set you back about 25 quid. It’s also pretty flipping fantastic, with loads of unused designs, first drafts and just awesome-looking posters. If, like us, you are colossal nerds, we highly recommend it. Not cheap, but ace. There’s also a great interview with the man himself over on Ain’t It Cool News. Art’s all abut DeLoreans, man.

Questa meraviglia di libro esce ufficialmente il 24 settembre e potete già preordinarlo su Amazon.co.uk per sole 15 sterle (poco meno di 18 euro).

Direi che è un acquisto inevitabile.

I could stare at these all day. If you look closely at example number 23, the coupling housing doesn’t seem to be connected by the standard 3/4″ cross-threaded hex bolt to the rotator splint. As all of you know, that can be dangerous while disengaging the main base-plate from the bearing shaft, thus causing catastrophic failure of the differential girdle spring.

This will be part of my upcoming wallpack. The pack will consist of new pieces, old pieces, patterns, and stand alone designs.I’ve always wanted to rework my old Apples n Oranges piece, but I decided to start fresh with this piece and loosely base it on A n O. Wanted to go more detailed and a lot cleaner. With the exception of the electrical outlets each individual device is unique, no one is identical. Stay tuned for details on the next wallpack.

Illustrator, engraver and painter based in Madrid, graduated of Fine Arts in the University of Sevilla in ‘98. Since then he worked in different design studios and ad agencies in Andalusia. In June 2007 he begins to show his portfolio and after being selected amongst the 20 new talents of illustration, by the London based magazine Computer Arts, he begins his succesful carreer as an illustrator.

Peter Elson, Science Fiction Illustrator

Peter Elson (1947 – 1998) was an English science fiction illustrator whose work appeared on the covers of numerous science fiction paperback novels, as well as in the Terran Trade Authority series of illustrated books.

Elson, whose illustrations often placed detailed, brightly-liveried spacecraft against vividly colored backgrounds, influenced an entire generation of science fiction illustrators and concept artists.

The look of the PC game Homeworld was heavily influenced by Elson’s illustrations of the ’70s and ’80s, according to artists who worked on the title (he is listed in the Special Thanks section of the game’s manual and has a character, Captain Elson, named after him).

Elson was originally slated to create the game’s box art, but at the last moment was pre-empted by the publisher’s decision to use a 3D rendered scene. Born in Ealing, West London, he died of a heart attack in Skegness while working on mural paintings for Butlins. Most of his original work is now owned by his sister.
